HTS supports infrastructure safety in Qatar’s strategic gas expansion project
The North Field Expansion (NFE) project, led by QatarEnergy, is one of the largest developments in the history of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Its goal is to significantly increase the country’s production capacity, strengthening Qatar’s position as a global leader in LNG exports.
Within this context, HTS was selected to provide sealing solutions in key areas of the project — particularly where fire, gas, water, and pressure protection were critical. In LNG plants, risks such as gas leaks, explosions, or electrical failures must be anticipated from the earliest stages of design. Sealing systems play a vital role in ensuring operational safety across such facilities.
Complex infrastructure, demanding environment
The operating environment in NFE is highly challenging: high-pressure gas pipelines, sensitive electrical equipment, and extensive cable runs in classified areas. In this setting, cable and pipe entry points are not minor elements — if left unprotected, they become entry points for critical risk factors.
The main challenge was to guarantee a reliable seal in multiple critical locations, while complying with standards such as ATEX, IECEx, UL, and IP68, without interfering with the design flexibility or installation schedules.
The HTS sealing solution
HTS delivered a modular mechanical sealing system, certified for use in harsh industrial environments. This technology is designed to provide physical isolation at cable and pipe penetrations, ensuring protection even under fire exposure, corrosive gas, high humidity, or structural vibrations.
One key advantage of this system was its adaptability. It allowed the installation teams to respond to design variations without delays or structural changes, maintaining full safety compliance throughout the project timeline.
HTS engineers worked closely with project teams throughout the process — from specification to on-site supervision — ensuring a clean installation that met the technical standards and scheduling targets of the NFE program.

Tangible results and long-term value
The installed systems successfully passed all sealing, pressure, and fire resistance tests. Beyond technical compliance, the outcome was a safer installation — ready for demanding operation and requiring minimal future maintenance.
The end client appreciated both the system’s performance and the technical support provided. The ability to make in-field adjustments and prepare for future expansion was also seen as a major advantage, particularly considering the long-term nature of the NFE development.
Safety that sustains operations
In a project as large and complex as North Field Expansion, every system must contribute to operational continuity — and sealing solutions are no exception. HTS delivered a proven, field-tested solution backed by real-world experience in high-risk environments.
Contributing to the safety of one of the world’s most strategic gas infrastructures confirms HTS’s role as a reliable partner for large-scale projects — where technical precision and trust go hand in hand.
